“Getting photographs is not the most important thing. For me its the act of photographing. It’s enlightening, therapeutic, and satisfying, because the very process forces me to connect with the world.”
I am a firm believer that practice leads to improvement. Perfection is a goal. Ambition is the force that guides us to excellence.
Photography has been one of my greatest passions since 1976, when I first began photos of the Hunter Army/Air Force Base Swim Team in Savannah Georgia. with a Minolta SRT 201. Between 1977 and 1981, I attended California State University at Sacramento, where I enrolled in several photography courses. It was during this time that my enthusiasm for photography evolved beyond sports photography. Since then, my interests have expanded to encompass other genres including landscape and nature photography, family and portrait photography, and street/urban photography. In the years that have followed, I obtained a degree in law from the University of Denver. However, I have continued to hone my “creative eye” and have enhanced my knowledge of 35mm and, more recently, digital photography. My love for this artistic expression led me to develop On the Mark Images. Presently, I am offering a limited calendar for photo sessions and events. However, as I prepare for my retirement from my current full-time position, I plan to expand my schedule for appointments.
Currently, my brand of preference is Canon Cameras and my favorite format is black and white photography. As it is with tuxedos, the classics never go out of style. But, who can argue with the dimensions that color, shadows, tints and hues can bring to a young child’s smiling face, a bride’s glowing eyes, a tropical sunset, or a bee on a wild flower. Still, photographs convey a moment in time that timeless. Whether it’s the candid shot of a father asleep with a sleeping child on his chest, the beauty and muscular skillfulness of a gymnast’s form while performing a routine, still photographs evokes feelings or pride, surprise, tenacity, motivation, humor and love.
I established On the Mark Images in 2017. Since that time, I have been expanding my galleries, enhancing my knowledge and improving my skills vis-a`-vis Adobe Lightroom, and learning the ins-and-outs of business start-ups. I will continue to evolve in my craft as I endeavor to provide my customers with an ancient form of expression enhanced by the expansion within the science of technology.
Photography for me is the search of that awe inspiring moment that you know once captured cannot be recreated.
“When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.”
“There is only you and your camera. The limitations in your photography are in yourself, for what we see is what we are.”
“Black and white are the colors of photography. They symbolize the alternatives of hope and despair to which mankind is subjected.”
